Thank you
Sarah S and her parent volunteers for organizing the Special lunch today! Thank you Rosalyn S for helping with the Lost and Found we will be sending out photos early next week.
Crosswalk and Action Needed
Several families are asking about the crosswalks - both why the one over 14th Street was not installed and why neither has been painted when other crosswalks in the area have been.
Good questions. Some of our parents have been in contact with Councilor Walcott’s office. They have assured them that funding is in place for this crosswalk light. They have also sent two requests to city admin and have not received a response as to why these have not been installed. We would like to encourage all of you interested in obtaining a crosswalk to start writing emails regarding installing a crosswalk on 14thStreet and 36 Ave SW.

Parent Volunteers
Are you wanting to volunteer this year? If you are or if you are thinking you might, there is a new process to go through. Please go onto our website and click on “Get Involved” and the tab Volunteer. It has all the information you need as well as the form and links you need to bring to the office to start the process. *** If you have a student in Grade 4, you may need to re-new your Police Check. Please come into the office with a new Registration Form filled out and check your status.
Dance Club
This year, we will be having Dance Club for Grades 2-4 that will take place during lunch hour on Thursdays.
Grade 4 students will be invited to participate in October, Grade 3 students in November and Grade 2 students in December. As this will be during school hours, there are no permission forms and will be drop-in format for students. We will make an announcement each Thursday to remind students to join us in the gym during lunch recess. Please email me with any questions at: stbriard@cbe.ab.ca. Stephanie Briard Grade Four Teacher
IPP’s to be sent home October 16
Any student on an IPP, who is coded, (Individualized Personal Plan) can expect it to be sent home for a signature on October 16 2023. Please e-mail Mme Bullough with questions. sbbullough@cbe.ab.ca
Day Care for Families
Families who need childcare before school may email Mme Celine as she has a few spots open. This Day Care is not affiliated with our school but she has asked me to let parents know. She is able to drive children to school by 8:00AM. Please e-mail Mme Celine Lacoste at calgaryfrenchdayhome@shaw.ca
Lost and Found
The good news is we now have just one Lost and Found at the school so items collected by Seeds of Spice will now be sent to the Lost and Found located at the front doors on 36th Ave. The bad news is, the Lost and Found is full! Please visit the Lost and Found and/or review the 6 photos attached to see if your family is missing something. Keep in mind, some items were left at the fantastic Fall Fling held last Thursday and a few items were from last year (eg skates, stuffed blue bunny, unicorn watch). ANY ITEMS NOT CLAIMED BY THURSDAY, OCT 5, WILL BE COLLECTED AND DONATED!

Terry Fox Run and PE Update
Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s Terry Fox Run fundraiser! This has been one of our most successful Terry Fox events as we have doubled our school goal and raised $2 066! Thank you to all those who donated, participated and spread awareness. We are continuing with our LaCrosse in the gym all next week. There are some cool pictures posted on our Twitter account @WilliamReid_CBE

Reminder Mission to Recycle with ARMA
Please join the staff and students at William Reid as we plan to embark on a mission to refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose and recycle! We have been offered a wonderful opportunity to help raise funds that will be put towards a student inspired goal such as a William Reid reusable item for each student and/or a water bottle fill station in the school. We will be partnering with the Alberta Recycling Management Authority (ARMA), which is the province’s leading authority on recycling, overseeing all aspects of end-of-life processing of electronics, paint, tires, and used oil materials. Along with William Reid, ARMA is looking to host a community round-up event on October 26th, 2023. The school would serve as a drop-off point for unused electronics and beverage containers and bottles in a half-day event. We will be inviting other schools in the area to join us in our efforts by bringing their broken electronics and bottles to our school after 3 pm on the day of the event. If you have any questions about this event, please contact Mme Ferguson at kaferguson@cbe.ab.ca

We held an Orange Shirt Day Assembly today outside in honour of our commitment to recognize and to respect the Indigenous peoples and their history today. Please ask your child how they show gratitude for the land and what they learned.
