Last week was such a beautiful week, except for the brief snow Friday, and it was great to be outdoors in the sunshine. Please remember that the weather in May will be getting warmer and to ensure that your child on sunny days has sunscreen on and to bring a hat and proper footwear to school every day. As the weather is warmer classes will be going outside to do learning on the land, gym class, music class and teachers may do a unit outside in the field or naturalization area. At William Reid we believe in getting outside and learning on the land. When we take students off campus for a walk the teacher in charge will be sending home a letter via school messenger 48 hours before the walk.
Kindergarten and Grade 1 New Student Orientation

Volunteer Week
As we celebrated Volunteer Week, we want to extend our heartfelt appreciation to each and every volunteer who generously donates their time, energy, and skills to support William Reid School.
Your dedication and commitment to our school community have a profound impact on the lives of our students and staff alike. Whether you're assisting in the classroom, organizing events like our monthly Fun Lunches, or lending a helping hand behind the scenes, your selfless contributions make a world of difference. Thank you/MERCI for embodying the spirit of kindness and collaboration, and for being invaluable partners in education. We are truly grateful for your unwavering support and the positive ripple effects you create throughout our school. We will be hosting a Volunteer Tea on May 31 right after drop off. Save this tentative date and more to come....
Fees and Volunteers
A lot of thought, effort and time is dedicated to planning and booking in-school activities and experiences, field trips. When fees remain unpaid and volunteer positions are left unfilled, it comprises the quality and our ability to offer these experiences.
Please pay your fees. Please consider volunteering. Should you require assistance, please
call the office.
May is Asian Heritage Month 2024
Since the late-1700s, people of Asian descent have made important contributions to Canada's history and identity. In 2002, the Government of Canada officially recognized the month of May as Asian
Heritage Month, a time to reflect on and celebrate the contributions that Canadians of Asian descent have made and continue to make, to the growth and prosperity of Canada (Source: Canada.ca).

Message from Seeds of S.P.I.C.E. to all families
I am the owner of kindergarten and before and after school programs in William Reid and Altadore School. Our company, Seeds of S.P.I.C.E. Early Learning Centre Inc. has been operating for 13 years servicing numerous communities in Calgary. We strive to provide high-quality care and learning to children ages 5-11 years, in a safe, Reggio-inspired, child-led, learning environment. With such an
overwhelming waitlist for our Kindergarten and School Age group that continues to grow year to year, we have begun to seek possible offsite locations and have come up with no leads. We would love to meet more families’ needs and reduce our waitlist by finding an alternative location. If anyone can think of
or knows someone who can help us out with additional space in churches, community centres, commercial or condo space, etc., please connect with us as this community is in dire need of care and has little to no options. We thank you in advance and look forward to serving this community for many more years to come.

Bottle-Fill Station
The bottle station will not be fitted in William Reid until the summer months. The system facility operators have informed us that they are 6 - 8 weeks (about 2 months) behind their maintenance
and installation schedule. The 2024 school year will start with the station installed and ready for use. Thank you again to all the students, parents and staff who made this happen for William Reid!
