Virtue this Month is:  Truth

Mme Brooke and Mme Chelsey hosted an assembly this week to promote our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation and to the Indigenous Culture on the virtue of truth.  All homerooms are doing activities to promote telling the truth and the importance for mental health and wellbeing to tell the truth.  We learn from the Blackfoot Ways of Knowing that “if the truth is not told then the community can be hurt and we too”.  Please feel free to join us as a family with this virtue and talk about the importance of telling the truth at home too.

Run Club starts this week during lunchtime Tuesdays and Thursdays. (April 29-May 22) for Grades 1 – 4 students. Kids can meet Katrina and Sarah S in the field during their lunch recess time. There will be no sign up but any students can join in. We will run the perimeter of the fields (Terry Fox Run route). As a culmination and something to work towards, Run Club participants and their families could register for the Kids Race at the Calgary Marathon on Saturday, May 24 2025 (New date it is no longer Sunday).   This will not be a school sponsored event, parents can just register their kids and come as a family to the race.  Parents must be present at the Calgary Marathon and there will be no childcare

New Kindergarten and Grade 1 Orientation Friday May 2 from 1:00-2:30PM

Friday May 2 from 1:00-2:30PM will be our New Kindergarten and Grade 1 Orientation.  All new families to our school who are accepted and registered as William Reid students for the 2025 – 2026 school year are invited to attend. Kindergarten and Grade 1 teachers will be sharing important information and after a short presentation, classrooms will be open to visit.

CBE 2025-2026 Calendar

As William Reid families plan their lives, including travel, we request consideration of the published
CBE calendar of non-instructional days: 2025-2026 CBE Instructional Calendar Note that the first day of school is on Tues. Sept. 2, 2025 (after the August long weekend). Similar to this school year, a Fall Break has been set in November, in addition to the customary Winter and Spring breaks. Maintaining regular
school attendance, and planning travel during scheduled breaks, is vital to success in learning and social development.

Recess Sports and Equipment

With the arrival of beautiful weather and ideal conditions for outdoor play, we've noticed more students bringing their own sports equipment to use during recess. While we encourage active play, please note that the school is not responsible for any lost or stolen personal equipment. Parents will be responsible for replacing any such items.

On another note, if any families have unused baseball mitts or catcher equipment, we will welcome those donations.  Students are welcome to bring soccer balls; however, other equipment such as bats and helmets are not permitted for safety reasons. We are currently exploring options to provide safer baseball equipment at school for those interested in playing. Thank you for your understanding and
support.

May 14 We will be having a Class/Grade Colour Day

Please ask your kiddos to wear the colour that corresponds with their grade as we will be taking
a class picture on this day and we thought it would be super cute to match!

Kinder: Orange/Yellow

Grade 1: Blue/Purple

Grade 2: White/Grey

Grade 3: Red/Pink

Grade 4: Green/Light Blue

Thanks friends!!!        From,

Your spirit day gals (Brooke and Maria) and yearbook committee!
