Dear William Reid families,

This may be the last message from the school for a while, in light of potential strike action from ATA members, set to begin on October 6. At this time, I would like to thank families for their support and kind words as we navigate this situation.

It is important to note that all teaching staff, including Mme. Bullough and myself, will not be available for the duration of labour action. Teachers won't be preparing extra activities or learning packages for students to complete while the strike continues and won't be responding to emails/calls as they will not have access to these tools during the strike. As well, teachers will not be sending out a weekly messages this week and until the strike has ended. The CBE will communicate any critical messages about re-entry plans when this information is made available and there is a resolution. They have already communicated that as of October 6,

  • All classes are cancelled
  • Transportation is cancelled
  • Google classroom will be available, but teachers will not be able to access and update.
  • The most up-to-date information can also be found on the labour action page.

Of particular note, any offsite activities, field trips, special on site activities, have been cancelled from October 6-31, even if a settlement is reached and students return to school during this window. While labour action may be resolved sooner, cancelling these activities enables schools to focus first on the resumption of learning after teachers are back in schools. Once labour action has been resolved, we will contact you about resuming or rescheduling activities

Healthy Hunger Lunches

As directed by the CBE, all on-site and off-site activities have been cancelled for the month of October. Therefore, Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch (Papa Johns) will be cancelled for October 30. If you would like a refund to your original payment method, please visit the Healthy Hunger site and cancel your order before October 6. If you do not individually cancel your order before October 6, lunch will automatically be cancelled and a credit will be issued for your order and placed on your Healthy Hunger account for use at a future lunch date. You can contact Heathy Hunger directly for a refund of credits issued that you are unable to use.

All remaining lunches for November onwards will remain active unless further notice is given regarding labor action. Only October dates will be cancelled at this time.

Additionally our scheduled day for picture retakes has been cancelled for October. We will reschedule picture retakes after the strike has ended.

Again, with thanks for your support and warm wishes. We hope to see you soon.

The William Reid School Fundraising Society holds a fundraiser every two years called Oktoberfest. This is a fun event consisting of: an evening out; a silent auction that is hosted online and a live auction held during the evening. In the past, this event has raised in the neighborhood of $20 000 for the school. These funds go directly to the school, and this is the only event that the Fundraising Society hosts for the year to generate funds
