Bonjour nos familles,
Over the month of April and May students engaged in multiple extra-curricular opportunities. We had our Artist in Residence Sue Contini, Kindergarten Zoo trips, Grade 2’s to Heritage Park, Grade 4 Delf Exams, Sewing Club, Mine Craft Club, Student Voice, and offered Soccer Club, so far. Students are intentionally and confidently sharing their skills and strengths to include others. In all opportunities to extend learning, students demonstrated commitment to excellence. This was exemplified through our whole school creative art project with Sue Contini in May and our Spring Concert with Mary Lambert on May 9th. More field trips and community opportunities are planned for the coming weeks. Please be sure to check your child’s classroom communication tools for updates. In addition to engaging learning opportunities, May and June will bring many upcoming year-end events and celebrations. Please check your child’s classroom communication tools regularly.
Mme Gunn’s Kindergarten Celebration
Our Kindergarten Celebration of Learning is May 30, from 8:10 - 8:40. The performance will be outside (weather permitting) the front doors of the school on the steps. We invite parents to stay a bit after for a coffee, while I take students back to class. There will be a sign up for the parents sent out, please keep an eye out for it. It will be kindergarten classes only. More to come in June for Mme Moreau’s kindergarten classes.
You’re Fa-Brew-Lous!
On Friday May 31, 2024 at 8:15 am we are honoring our wonderful volunteers in the gym at William Reid School. There will be coffee and an assortment of treats for you to enjoy. There will also be various performances from our grateful students and an opportunity to chat with staff. There is so much we couldn’t do without our amazing parent volunteers. You add tremendously to our school community. We want to show our appreciation for taking time out of your busy lives to chaperone field trips, attend School Council, support teachers and students during our school residencies, fundraise, organize fun events for staff and students, distribute special lunches, and so much more. Please RSVP with your child’s teacher by May 24 to let us know if you are attending.

Class lists at William Reid
As enrollment continues to change, so do the number of classes and our class configurations. We want to include you and our students in this process.
K – 1 will need direct support from you
2-4 will need a conversation as support from you
Students in younger grades K – 1 will be sent home with a link to complete with you, the parents, in an on-line form. Homeroom teachers of older students will complete the same form together. We want to give older students a voice at our school as we feel it is important for independence and personal development. This form supports us in creating our class lists and in ensuring we have accurate enrollment counts for next year. Our enrollment data also serves in making staffing decisions. There are two questions on the form. First off, the form asks students to “indicate up to 4 peers with whom they work well”. The second question is “why do you work well with them?” These selections will be used in the class composition process for the following year. Parent/Student input into their next year homeroom is something we feel is important to student success. Of the four peers, we will try to take into consideration to pair each student with at least ONE of their selections in their homeroom. We are also mindful that some friends are great playmates and not always suited best for learning. We put a great deal of time and effort into creating our homerooms and there are many factors that go into this process. We do not take requests for specific teachers. If you have a specific educational concern, please discuss this with us the administration directly. Class lists and staffing assignments are not finalized until very late in August. Your child’s homeroom teacher will connect with you prior to the first day of school, on or by August 30 2024.
