Dear William Reid Families,

This week’s chilly weather has been perfect for freezing ice blocks for our Ice Castle Building Event! We are excited for students to take part in this long-standing William Reid tradition. It is always a special experience for our learning community.

Report Cards

Report cards will be available through MyCBE beginning February 24.

  • Individual Program Plans (IPPs) will be sent home alongside report cards.
  • If your child has an IPP, please review and return a signed copy to their teacher.
  • Teachers have carefully reviewed assessments and prepared individualized comments.
  • If you would like a copy for your records, please download or print the report card.

Report cards highlight:

  • Areas of strength
  • Areas for growth

They are designed to support clear communication and consistency across all CBE schools. If you have questions about your child’s progress at any time, please contact their teacher.

1. Ice Castle Building | Bring Your Blocks!

Our Ice Castle returns Monday, February 23!

To make this magical winter tradition happen, we need your help.

How You Can Support

Freeze Ice Blocks ASAP
Please begin freezing ice blocks (if you haven’t already) so we have plenty ready for building.

Drop-Off Instructions (Monday Morning, Feb. 23)

  • Bring frozen ice blocks to school.
  • Line them up in front of a chair labeled with your child’s teacher’s name.
  • For early morning SEEDS arrivals, place blocks near the teacher’s exterior door.
  • Please write the teacher’s name directly on the ice block.

Let’s make this happen before the snow melts on us again! Thank you for helping keep this winter tradition alive.

2. School Council | Next Meeting – March 10, 2026

We would like to:

  • Thank Danisha Bhaloo-Shivji for stepping into the role of School Council Chair.
  • Thank Tiffany Ward for her support during the transition.
  • Welcome Sarah Moss as Fundraising Society President.

Volunteer Opportunity

We are currently seeking:

Naturalization Lead

  • Coordinate a few annual garden clean-ups
  • Organize the summer watering schedule for school naturalization areas

These roles are not overly time consuming but are crucial to the organization and success of our School Council. Please contact wrchair@gmail.com with your interest.

3. Healthy Hunger Special Lunch Volunteers

Our next Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch is:

February 26, 2026 – OPA!

Thank you to all volunteers who have signed up to help organize and distribute food.

If you would like to volunteer for Fun Lunch distribution days, please sign up through the Healthy Hunger Volunteer Sign Up link.

4. Child Care Tax Receipts | Lunch Supervision

Child Care Tax Receipts for CBE Lunch Supervision
(January 2025 – December 2025) are now available through MyCBE.

5. Student Fees | Collection Notice

Unpaid 2024–25 lunch supervision and transportation fees will be sent to collections in February/March 2026.

Families can avoid collections by:

  • Paying 2024–25 central fees in full via MyCBE
  • Applying and being approved for a 2024–25 Central Fee Waiver
  • Requesting a Payment Plan

6. Absenteeism | Attendance & Student Success

Regular attendance and punctuality are essential expectations of the CBE. There is a strong correlation between attendance and student success.

  • Attendance is taken within 10 minutes of the bell (morning and afternoon).
  • Late arrivals disrupt classroom routines.
  • Frequent absences negatively impact learning.

Please schedule appointments and travel outside school hours whenever possible.

To report an absence or late arrival, call the 24-hour absence line:
403-777-6940 ext. 1

This helps reduce time spent contacting families to confirm student safety.
