YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT OKTOBERFEST 2025
1. WHEN IS OKTOBERFEST? Friday, November 21, 7pm at Last Best 607 11 Ave SW.
2. WHAT IS OKTOBERFEST? Oktoberfest is William Reid’s biennial fundraiser that raises money for all the extra things that make our school unique such as student agendas, teacher resources, school clubs, and school events organized by parent council like Fall Fling and Last Blast. Proceeds may also assist our school with funding library materials, musical instruments, computer/ technology/audiovisual equipment, the Artist in Residence program and maintaining the school ground naturalization area. There will be a live and silent auction, including class baskets with contributions from you. Remember, this is the ONLY fundraiser this year that raises money for William Reid school.
3. THIS SOUNDS LIKE FUN…IS IT? YES!! Of course it is! Have a drink and some snacks, talk to other parents and teachers, and bid on some great prizes! William Reid is a very social community, so you are sure to meet new and existing families ready to have some fun outside of the school playground.
4. WE NEED YOU! William Reid parents are needed to make this fundraiser a success. Oktoberfest requires participation from all within our school community to maximize the benefits of this event. You can help by volunteering on the Oktoberfest planning committee, contributing to the class baskets, contributing or soliciting auction donations, buying a ticket or making a monetary donation, volunteering for the day of, and/or taking part in the auctions.
5. WHERE DO I BUY TICKETS? Tickets are $60 each (plus fees) and include a drink ticket, a door prize entry, and appetizers. Buy online at https://oktoberfestyyc.wixsite.com/2025. Ticket sales are open, so buy yours today!
6. WHAT CAN I DONATE TO THE CLASS BASKET? Each grade has a designated theme
and parents purchase items to fill the class baskets. The themes are - Kindergarten: Fun for the whole family, Grade 1: Food & Drink, Grade 2: Recreation & Leisure, Grade 3: Reading & Learning, Grade 4: Pampered Parents. Items donated to the class baskets will be parceled for the silent auction and may be used as door prizes. 7. WHAT CAN I DONATE TO THE AUCTION? Anything and everything! Nothing is too big or too small. You can donate products or services or you can use our Donation Request Letter to ask friends, family, your work, or even solicit your favourite businesses to donate products and services. Here are some ideas from previous years: tickets (concerts/symphony/theatre, hockey/sports games, ballet/dance), gift cards (movies, restaurants, spa/gym/ski/park passes, tours or tastings), services (babysitting, doing your taxes, dog walking, gardening, interior design, cake decorating, photography, lessons), products (local or handmade), and cabin or vacation property rentals.
8. WHERE DO I DROP OFF MY DONATION? Drop off all donations between now and November 17. Class basket items may be collected within your child's class or designated drop houses. Auction items must be dropped at designated houses listed on https://oktoberfestyyc.wixsite.com/2025. Every auction item needs a completed Auction Item Information Form and you must email digital photos/logos to WilliamReidOktoberfest@gmail.com with the subject line "AUCTION PHOTOS" for us to upload onto our mobile interactive bidding system.
9. IS THIS JUST FOR WILLIAM REID PARENTS? Friends, family, and teachers are welcome too! If you cannot be there in person, remember that everyone is welcome to make a monetary donation, donate auction items, and/or participate in the silent auction remotely!
10. I AM A NEW KINDERGARTEN PARENT – SHOULD I STILL COME? YES!! Oktoberfest is a perfect way to meet parents at the school and get involved with the fantastic William Reid school community.
11. I AM FEELING TIGHT ON CASH – SHOULD I STILL COME? YES!! There is a huge range of price points for the auction and some of the activities at the event. Plus, we still need more volunteers to help plan the event. We always need more hands and volunteers on the planning committee get a break on the ticket price.
12. HOW DO I VOLUNTEER? We are looking for volunteers to join the planning committee. Please email WilliamReidOktoberfest@gmail.com with the subject line "VOLUNTEER" and include your name and contact info. We also need volunteers on the night of the event to assist with setup, check-in, cash-out, and clean-up. Sign up for a shift at https://oktoberfestyyc.wixsite.com/2025.
13. WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO THE EVENT? Cash, credit card, and your mobile device for online interactive bidding.
14. WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? Anything you are comfortable in – this is a party! You could even break out your lederhosen or dirndl if you like.
