Kindergarten updates for June 20 and June 26

On Friday, June 20: There is no school for any kindergarteners. It is a regular day for Grade 1 – 4 but no school for our kindergarten students. This is to ensure equal instructional hours for both the AM and PM program.

On Thursday, June 26, last day of school. Our calendar mentions K “staggered entry”. This will be exactly what we did in August 2024.

  • AM class - 8:02 - 10:00am June 26
  • PM Class from 10:00am - 12:00pm June 26

Outdoor lunch – Thursdays in June

As we move towards summer, we will explore having our lunch breaks outside, weather permitting. Every Thursday in June, all parents and guardians are welcome to have lunch with the students outside. Please respect that we need to keep them in class configurations to take attendance, and we need them to sit within proximity for safety. You are welcome to sit with your children and their friends. We ask that you make provisions for sunscreen, picnic blanket, hats, bug spray etc..

Celebrate Indigenous Education in June

June is an exciting month for Indigenous ways of being, belonging, doing, and knowing:

Oktoberfest is Coming Next Year...

Calling all parent volunteers! Want to join in and support not only a very fun evening out, but one of the biggest fundraising generators for our school? Then you'll definitely want to be a part of this!

Oktoberfest is next year's ONLY fundraising event organized by William Reid School parents and it will be held this fall. Parents decided several years ago to combine all of our fundraising efforts into one great social event instead of having smaller fundraisers (selling chocolates, baked goods, coupon books etc.) throughout the year. Our other fundraiser is a casino that occurs approximately every 24 months, which we had this past year.

If you would like to join the planning committee for this fall's Oktoberfest fundraising event, please email williamreidoktoberfest@gmail.com with the subject line "OKTOBERFEST VOLUNTEER".

FAQ

Do I need to be fluent in German?

  • Nein, but make sure you spell the email address with a "k"

Do I need to wear Lederhosen or a dirndle to committee meetings?

  • Not unless you want to.

How much time will this take?

  • We'll have 1-3 hours of virtual meetings a month for June-September and will need help with various activities in September and October to prepare.

But what are we organizing?!

  • We are basically planning an adult's night out with an auction so you can outbid other parents, teachers, and friends of William Reid School.

Thanks,
Rosalyn School Council

AHS – Community Education Sessions

The following are free online sessions offered by AHS:

June 5 (Noon-1:30 p.m.) Building Resiliency in Today's Youth. Brought to you by specialists in Girls' Mental Health. Before High School graduation, one-third of adolescent girls will experience depression, anxiety disorders, self-harm or an eating disorder. However, there is an incredible power in caregivers who can support our youth, both young women and men, before they seek therapy. At Juno House®, we believe in the extraordinary healing power of parents, caregivers, coaches, and teachers. In our 1.5 hour workshop presentation, we will share steps and strategies from the Juno House Therapeutic Model® that will provide effective emotional coaching tools for today’s youth as they develop through adolescence and into young adulthood. We believe that talking does not grow neurons; experience grows neurons. This workshop is designed to give caregivers the skills to become their child’s emotional coach. The workshop will provide participants with:

  • Basic introduction of interpersonal neurobiology,
  • Where emotions live in our brains,
  • The essential role emotions play in mental well being,
  • How to identify emotions in youth,
  • How to become an emotional coach in only five steps

June 25 – at 12pm  William Reid BBQ
